Craving a slice of modern pizza served in a charming Korean hanok? Look no further than Plop Anguk, located at 5 Bukchon-ro 2-gil, Jongno-gu, Seoul. Operating daily from 11:30 AM to 9:30 PM (with a break between 3:30 PM and 5:00 PM on weekdays), this popular eatery doesn’t accept standard reservations—but you can join the queue remotely via Tableling, ensuring you won’t have to wait in a long line outside. Originally famous for its Eunpyeong (Bulgangcheon) location, Plop also has branches in Yeonnam and Anguk; however, the Anguk spot is especially appealing thanks to its convenient proximity to Gwanghwamun and the added charm of a traditional hanok atmosphere.
I visited Plop Anguk on New Year’s Day to kick off 2023 on a tasty note. The space exudes a cozy vibe, merging rustic hanok elements with stylish, modern décor. Even the cutlery and small details showcase Plop’s unique design sense—perfect for those who love snapping pictures of their food adventures.
Half-and-Half Pizza 하프앤하프 (21,000 KRW)
Unable to decide between two favorites, we opted for the Bacon Mashed Potato on one side and Pepperoni on the other. The pepperoni may seem basic at first glance, but it packs a gratifying balance of salty meatiness and tangy tomato sauce. The Bacon Mashed Potato half, on the other hand, is reminiscent of a sweet-salty snack like honey butter chips: the creamy mashed potatoes and sweet sauce bring out a delightful contrast in textures. Their signature “Sobo-ro Pizza” was unfortunately unavailable that day, but the half-and-half combo more than satisfied our cravings.
Daepa Cream Oven Pasta 대파 크림 오븐 파스타 (11,500 KRW)
This “accidental discovery” turned out to be a highlight. A fan of thick, cheesy sauces, I fell in love with the Daepa Cream Oven Pasta at first bite. The gooey cheese pulls and an egg yolk that adds extra richness will win over any cream-pasta enthusiast.
If you’re seeking a memorable meal in the Anguk area—perhaps after exploring nearby cultural sites—Plop Anguk offers the ideal blend of old and new. The hanok setting imparts a cozy, distinctly Korean flair, while the pizzas and pasta deliver contemporary flavors that keep diners coming back. For those working or sightseeing near Gwanghwamun, it’s an easy spot to stop by for a post-work slice and a beer. And if you’d rather indulge in something sweet afterward, you can always stroll over to Randy’s Donuts for a Maple Bacon Long John to complete your culinary adventure.
